Ruellia carolinensis (Native Petunia) 1-2 feet tall; bluish purple flowers from May through September. Very versatile perennial that does well in the north and the south. Needs full sun and well drained sites. Larval plant for the Common Buckeye. Malachite, White Peacock, and the Mangrove Buckeye butterflies enjoy the nectar from Native Petunia as well as leafcutter, bumble and honeybees.

Great looking plants!
Very grateful to mailordernatives for offering the Florida native Ruellia caroliniensis (Wild petunia) at their nursery! I’m in South florida and these are very hard to find, I waited almost 3 years for them to become available at this location. Very healthy looking on arrival via UPS and well packed. I ordered five and are ready to plug them in the ground. Eager to purchase more when they are available! They are a ground cover with violet blooms in spring and summer. Additionally, they are a host plant for the Common buckeye and visited by several native species of butterfly. A plus in a native Florida ecosystem!
