A lovely evergreen shrub
I've only recently started growing Illicium parviflorum in my zone 7a garden. So far, a shrub that I planted last autumn made it through a challenging year (longest stretch of below-freezing weather in 100+ years followed by multiple droughts and heat waves in the summer) with flying colors. It even flowered a little despite its small size. So I added another one from Mail Order Natives. As usual, the plants from Mail Order Natives are very good value -- nice size, healthy, and affordable. In fact, the plant was so tall that I gave it a haircut when I planted it so that the roots wouldn't have so many leaves to support and I wouldn't risk it getting blown over in a winter storm. I have high hopes that Illicium parviflorum could be a great privacy shrub in my zone.
